Have you ever seen someone walk through a party with a saxophone, lighting up the entire room with every note? In this episode of the Guided by Imagination Podcast, I had the absolute joy of interviewing my friend and incredible saxophone entertainer, Kevin Delmastro. Kevin brings more than just music to events.. he brings unforgettable moments, deep emotion, and genuine connection.
We laughed, shared stories, and dove into what it means to perform with imagination, not just notes on a page, but personalized energy that moves people to tears, dancing, and connection.
From Improv Jams to Weddings & Baby Showers
Kevin and I first met through a beautifully serendipitous jam session, and our paths have crossed ever since through music, creativity, and our kids playing together. Watching Kevin perform is like watching magic unfold, he doesn’t just play music, he crafts an experience. He tailors every performance to the people in the room and their unique energy.
One of my favorite parts of our conversation was hearing how Kevin “throws his sax in the air” on the beat drop when he plays with DJs, yes, literally! That playful, fearless spirit is what makes his performances unforgettable.
Using Imagination to Connect
Kevin reminded me how important it is to imagine new ways to connect with others, whether it’s reimagining someone’s favorite love song to make them cry happy tears at their wedding, or wandering through a crowd to connect up-close during a performance.
He said:
“I try to feel like, where can I deliver that performance in a way that means the most to them? Where do they need that emotion, that energy?” 💛
YES. That’s the kind of service and artistry that turns a performance into a memory that lasts forever.
Cultivating Creativity in Kids
We also talked about parenting and how to keep the spark of imagination alive in our kids. I loved Kevin’s tip about encouraging journaling and sketching in nature. His kids even made their own cardboard box “tablet”, how cute and creative is that?! 📦📱
He said:
“Connecting with nature helps keep them in the present moment. Nature is like anti-technology.” 🌳✨
That one hit home. It reminded me how important it is to give our kids space to create freely and how we can do that for ourselves, too.
My Takeaway:
Kevin reminded me that imagination shows up when we let ourselves truly be present; with our audience, with our children, and with our own creativity.
So whether you’re a musician, a parent, an artist, or someone just trying to reconnect with joy, this episode is a powerful nudge to let your creative spark shine.
